This past weekend, on November 12, The 2011 NPC Rocky Mountain Bodybuilding, Fitness, Figure & the Max Muscle Bikini & Physique Championships were held at the EXDO Event Center in Denver. But, the road to “The Rocky,” as it’s commonly known, began for husband and wife Max Muscle storeowners Billy & Ali Van Heusen back in July. It was in their car, on the way home from the lake that Ali proposed the idea of competing in The Rocky to Billy. “We had spent the weekend in our bathing suits, playing in the water with our daughters (Mila 2yrs and Tess 1yr), and after two babies in twenty months plus a thyroid failure worth of weight, I was ready for my old body back.” Ali knew that she needed a goal, and as the 34 year old mother put it, “There is nothing like knowing you have to be on a stage in a small swimsuit next to twenty-something’s to get you going and keep you on track.” In an effort to support his wife, Billy agreed to compete in the brand new Men’s Physique division. On Saturday, October 22nd husband and wife owners of Max Muscle Denver & Littleton stepped on stage for the NPC Natural Colorado Open. It was Billy’s second time competing, but his first foray into the new Men’s Physique division. Billy took home the first place trophy in his height class and closed out with a second place finish in the overall. Ali, who was competing for the very first time, didn’t place in her bikini classes but according to her, “loosing 70lbs of baby weight and fitting into her skinny jeans is award enough.” The couple are now preparing to compete in the Rocky Mountain Bodybuilding, Fitness, Figure, and Bikini and Physique Championships on November 12th, more info at www.jefftaylor.com.
